Lin said he felt very happy to come to Pingtan and was impressed by the city's race tracks and enchanting views.

"It is a nice experience for me and I would like to take part in the race again," he added.

A new group was set up for elderly cyclists this year, which only needed to finish a 12-kilometer race.

Cai Huanhuai, a 59-year-old Taiwan resident, and his wife signed up for the newly-established group.

"It is quite convenient for us to come to Pingtan on a high-speed passenger ferry. I used to think Pingtan is just a small island, but this trip has completely changed my mind. Both I and my wife love the city’s fantastic views," Cai said.
