Preparation for the marine ministerial round table underway in Pingtan

The China–Small Island States Ocean-related Ministerial Round Table, is set to be held in Pingtan, Fujian province on September 21-22.

The event, jointly sponsored by the State Oceanic Administration (SOA) and Fujian Provincial People's Government, aims at establishing high-level dialogue mechanisms and partnerships with the island states across the world.

A total of 23 marine ministers will converge in Pingtan and explore the challenges faced by many island states such as sustainable economic development and environmental protection.

Currently, the preparation for the meeting is in full swing.

As the main venue, Pingtan Kylin Honor Hotel, perched on the shore of enchanting Zhuyu Lake, was recently refurbished and upgraded, especially its guestroom, canteens, and elevators.

In a bid to provide better service for the meeting attendees, Kylin has launched special training courses, according to Li Dian, the hotel's customer manager.

"We hired 100 additional staff and offered them trainings in foreign language and etiquette," Li said.

Additionally, a dazzling array of performances will also be staged during the two-day event to demonstrate the unique charm of the city to the world.

Among them is Pingtan Blue, a show directed by a renowned Chinese dancer Yang Liping. By the means of dancing and singing, the performance will spotlight Pingtan's traditional folk culture. Presently, the show is still in the stage of rehearsal.

The 3D water-curtain laser show will be another highlight. A series of fantastic images will be projected onto the fountains, creating a grand audiovisual extravaganza for the audience.

Currently, all the equipment for the show has been installed and the rehearsals are expected to be perfected by Sept 15, according to Luo Lihua, technical director of the show.

Pingtan is an island city comprising of 126 islands in the Taiwan Strait, under the administration of Fuzhou, and the host of the meeting will further enhance its global profile as it is actively building itself into an international tourist island.
