Combing traditional beauty with modern style, the unique homestays are renovated stone houses built during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) in Beigang and have gained popularity among visitors.

So far, there are more than 80 various homestays in Pingtan, according to Qiu Yingqiang, general manager of Pingtan Tourism Co.

Related polices need to be rolled out quickly to regulate and support the development of homestays as a facet of the tourism industry in the village, Qiu said, adding that employing more cross-Straits cultural creative talents might be a way to enrich these homestays'cultural connotations.

According to Lin Wanlong, who's in charge of the Beigang village's tourism development, more facilities are expected to be established in Beigang to fill the blanks of nightlife entertainment activities, such as a bonfire base.
