The 2016 Pingtan International Forum on Island Conservation and Development was held in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian province on June 25 and 26.

The event was a platform for global experts to share experience in island protection and development, and was expected to promote China's marine economy and help Pingtan reach its goal of becoming an international tourist destination.

More than 120 experts and scholars from all over the world took part in the forum and exchanged ideas on ecological protection and development of islands.

Results of China's Top Ten Beautiful Islands selection campaign were also revealed at the forum. The campaign started in 2015 and was aimed at raising people's awareness of island protection.
