An electronic commerce association was announced at an inauguration ceremony in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ), Fujian province on Jan 27.

The association aims to be a platform for local e-commerce enterprises to share resources and exchange ideas so as to promote the further development of the e-commerce industry.

Chen Dongrong, deputy director of PCPZ's administrative committee, said due to its status as a cross-Straits e-commerce economic cooperation zone, Pingtan has great potential in the e-commerce sector. Launching such an association is in line with the local government's plan to expand the e-commerce business.

Chen added that he expected the association will help create a better business environment for e-commerce companies and promote cross-Straits e-commerce exchange.

Chen Canzhang, first president of the association, noted that the association will be committed to gathering together more e-commerce professionals and turning Pingtan into a key area for cross-Straits e-commerce cooperation.

Shi Hong-bin, head of the Taiwan Cross-border E-commerce Association, said that he expected there will be more cooperation in the e-commerce sector between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland.
