Construction of the softball stadium for the National Youth Games (NYG) was completed on Sept 18, the Pingtan Times reported.

The first game will kick off in Fuzhou, Fujian province, on Oct 18-27. Pingtan will hold the softball match at the new stadium from Oct 15 to 26, which will be the first time for the city to host a national sports event.

With a total investment of 70 million yuan ($11 million), the stadium covers an area of nearly 9,000 square meters and can house 5,000 spectators. The stadium looks like a boat, embodying Pingtan’s coastal characteristics.

The stadium is the biggest of its kind in the country and qualified to host an international softball competition, said project manager Zhang Bin. After hosting NYG's softball games, the stadium will serve as a match field and training base for softball and baseball.
