Master Xuecheng, president of the Buddhist Association of China, visited the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) in Fujian province on May 16 to boost cultural exchange.

Religion is a vital part of human civilization, and today it plays an important role in cross-Straits communications, said Li Dejin, director of the PCPZ’s administrative committee in a meeting with Master Xuecheng.

There are ships operating between Pingtan and Taiwan on a daily basis, which creates convenience for cross-Straits Buddhist interaction. Li added that Pingtan hopes the Buddhist Association can use its influence to take the communication to the next level.

Master Xuecheng revealed that the purpose of his trip is to investigate a base for cross-Straits Buddhist culture. The association will provide full support.
