The winner of a mascot competition for a cycling race in Pingtan was announced on April 16, ptnet.cn reported.

Lanlan, literally means blue Pingtan, will become the icon for the China-Pingtan International Bicycle Open Tournament on June 7. Nearly 1,600 people from 19 countries and regions have signed up for the event.

The image of Lanlan is based on the horseshoe crab, an arthropod dubbed a “living fossil” under the second class state protection, according to the designer Yang Tianxin.
