The issue of how to accommodate Taiwanese professionals working in Pingtan has been a common concern, said an official at a meeting discussing cross-Straits labor relations held in Taipei on Sept 20.

As the vanguard of cross-Straits communication, Pingtan has always caught the attention of the Chung-Hua Cross-Strait Labor Relations Development Association (CCLRDA). At present, Pingtan is building a “Common Homeland” inviting more Taiwanese to work and live there, said Yao Chiang-lin, the association’s president.

Pingtan set up a communication center for cross-Straits workers in March at the suggestion of CCLRDA. To increase their interaction, Pingtan held a cycling tour in June.

In the next stage, Pingtan will start site construction of the workers communication center in order to meet the needs of vocational training and other business activities for Taiwan’s workers and create a stronger sense of home for them, said Yao.
