The 14-year-old budding star was crowned at the women’s course racing, and took the third place in freestyle.

Chen’s teammate Deng Xiaocheng had a stellar performance, too, finishing 2nd and 4th in the men’s course racing and freestyle, respectively.

The tournament, which was held from Sept 13-16, was composed of three programs – course racing, freestyle and twintip board racing.

Nearly 100 top kitesurfers from 11countries participated in the event. And five of them are from Pingtan, the island city in eastern Fujian province.

Lin Wenliang, capitain of the Pingtan delegation, was very happy talking about the results achieved by his players.

“We are all excited over the outcome, because we not only showcased what we are capable of in an international event, but also promoted Pingtan to the whole world,” he said.

“No doubt more people will travel to Pingtan to try out this extreme sport.”
