The construction of a top-tier hospital is in full swing in Pingtan county, Fujian province, as the Pingtan Times reported on Sept 12.

All six buildings of the hospital, which is situated in Jinjing Bay District, are being constructed. The roof-topping work is expected to be finished by the end of this year, according to a project supervisor.

The construction of Xiehe Hospital started on September 9, 2012. It is designed to be the first grade-three hospital - the highest of China's three-tier grading system for public hospitals – in Pingtan.

The first phase of the hospital occupies an area of 154,000 square meters and will have 1,000 beds. There will be six main buildings – an outpatient building, inpatient building, medical care center for Taiwanese, radiotherapy building and infection treatment building – as well as some supplementary housing.

It is noticeable that the medical care center for Taiwanese is the first of its kind on the Chinese mainland. The roof, which is expected to be topped out by December, will have a 550-sq-m helicopter pad.

The center is composed of a raft of function rooms, including an emergency department, clinics for Taiwanese, a VIP experience zone, operating department, supply center, delivery room, etc. It is equipped with 309 beds and some 130 wards for Taiwanese and VIP patients.
