A 2 1/2-month fishing ban on stow netting was lifted in Pingtan on July 16, following the ban-lifting on seining on July 1.

A total of 264 vessels, including 219 for stow netting and 45 for seining, set out to sea, according to the local fishery authority.

Other kinds of fishing activities, including gill netting, shrimp netting, cage and pot fishing can resume on Aug 1.

Local fishermen were prepared for the trip days earlier. Lin Xinsong from Aodong town said he was really excited about resuming his fishery operation.

Fishery authorities inspected fishing gear and talked to the fishermen about the importance of protecting fishing resources.
