Many media outlets, including newspapers, TV stations, and Web portals on the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan have reported on the progress of customs in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) in Fujian province.

A customs checkpoint in Pingtan passed inspection from central authorities on May 16, which meant the Pingtan Closure – a term referring to Pingtan being closed for special customs operations – was around the corner.

Mainstream media such as Xinhua New Agency, People’s Daily, and China Central Television published feature stories on Pingtan that day.

The acceptance of a new customs checkpoint and its facilities means the conditions for Pingtan Closure is already mature. With the implementation of a special customs clearance method, which classifies cargoes to be inspected at two customs checkpoints, Pingtan will enter a new era of development and benefit from more favorable polices, said a Xinhua report.

Beijing Times commented that as the country’s only pilot zone open to Taiwan, Pingtan will create more opportunities for local companies seeking to go public.
