The market has offered a number of incentives for Taiwan entrepreneurs, such as tax deductions and other subsidies. A lessee is exempt from all rent for the first year, gets subsidies in transportation fees for cargo, and can keep a certain proportion of their tax revenue in the first five years.

Chen’s company in Taiwan is engaged in health care products and services. She will bring the business to Pingtan in the next two years.

Chen said she was attracted by the favorable polices for Taiwan merchants, and thought Pingtan is a perfect springboard for business expansion on the Chinese mainland.

The tax-exempt market will start operations in June. More than 100 merchants have agreed to settle in the market, according to a manager there.
