Kitesurfer Chen Jingyue from Pingtan, China, showed a strong performance at the Thailand Kiteboarding International Tournament last month, as she bagged three bronze medals in three events.

Chen, 13, won third place in the women’s race board, women’s twin tip and women’s freestyle.

A total of 60 elite surfers from more than 10 countries competed in Hua Hin, from March 28 to 31.

It was regrettable that Chen missed out on winning a gold medal at the twin tip, which she is best at. But it is understandable, as she had to use some locally borrowed equipment, said Di Dahui, Chen’s coach.

But on the bright side, Chen has narrowed the gap technology-wise against professional surfers and piled up a considerable amount of experience through the tournament. She is expected to make more progress, especially in the freestyle category, he added.
