The Taiwan snacks are the most popular items on the first day, and one businessman said that he sold nearly 1,000 bags of Taiwan-grown red dates.

Thousands of local residents went on a buying spree on the first day of the Pingtan-Taiwan Trade Fair on Nov 18, much to the delight of organizers and participants.

Many senior citizens were among those who rushed to the newly-built wholesale fruit market – the location of the fair – to buy the Taiwan products.

Visitors said that they were impressed by the quality of the approximately 1,000 Taiwan commodities - especially the food products - displayed at 400 booths.

Local resident Chen Yanying said that most of the goods from Taiwan are not available in Pingtan and she would definitely come back with her husband to make more purchases - and also to taste the Taiwan food products.
