Six sand sculptors from Taiwan are showcasing their talents at the Longfengtou Bathing Beach in the island county of Pingtan, Fujian.

The six sculptors arrived in Pingtan on June 1 and are participating in the annual sand sculpture festival which will continue until October and aims to boost cross-Straits communication.

"Four of the six Taiwan's sand sculptors were born after 1985, and the group includes two women.

"There are not many female sculptors in China since it is a relatively physically demanding type of work. You have to endure the heat, wind and sand all day long," said a sand sculpture master from Taiwan, Wang Songguan.

"They don't have any complaint, and are quite good at sculpture creation," he said of the two female sculptors.

The event organizers are recruiting 30 volunteers to offer visitors a good service and to protect the sculptures.
