The main sand sculpture at the 2013 Cross-Straits Beach Culture Festival in Pingtan is a replica of a castle called Minas Tirith - in the books and film Lord of the Rings and it has already started to attract attention at the Longfengtou Bathing Beach.

Many of the sand sculptures this year are in the form of characters or locations from famous films.

More than 10 sculptors are working on the miniature castle and it is expected to reach 14-meters and cover an area of 15,000 cubic meters.

The sculptors take regular breaks to have a good look at their work from the ground.

Another six smaller sand sculptures are also being built for the event.
