The Kiteboard Tour Asia (KTA) is planning to open a kitesufing training base in Pingtan thanks to its suitable climate conditions, revealed KTA's head on Thursday, May 9.

Neil Godbold, founding director of the KTA, made the remark to Pingtan Times following the opening ceremony of the Pingtan leg of the KTA on Thursday. The training base, which is still in its embryonic stage, will be open to athletes across the world for practice, he added.

Situated in the eastern part of Fujian province, Pingtan Island boasts abundant ocean and wind resources, which are perfect for kitesurfing.

Godbold gave credit to the Pingtan government for excellent preparatory work for the event. He said the water quality and beach are in better condition than they were last year, when Pingtan held the KTA tour for the first time.

Godbold also gave thumbs up to the opening ceremony, saying the large crowd will create a sound atmosphere for the games.
