Pingtan harvests porphyra

A farmer drives an ox cart to transport reaped porphyra. Ox carts are the most suitable transportation method for porphyra harvests, since the plants grow in the ocean. Motor vehicles have difficulty accessing these coastal regions.

The farming of porphyra has four phases: conchocelis culture, conchospore collection, growing in the open sea, harvesting and processing. The plants grow rapidly, requiring about a month from planting until the first harvest. The production relies heavily on conditions of seawater and weather. Stormy weather and contaminated seawater often compromise the yield.

Pingtan porphyra boasts good taste and a low price. It is also rich in amino acids, minerals, and vitamins required for a healthy human body.
