The peaceful Tannan Bay in Pingtan, Fujian province is a virgin land with a shoreline of 22 kilometers. The Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone plans to develop the bay into a high-end resort off the west bank of the Straits.

It will equip the bay with facilities like golf courses, yacht clubs, enterprise beach clubs, ball games center, beach equestrian clubs and hotels. Tannan Bay has attracted about 1,000 investigatory groups to date since the establishment of the pilot zone.

"Tannan Bay's beaches are the best in Pingtan. Sand there is pure and white and has never been polluted," says Xue Liqi, an official with Pingtan's tourist administration.

The bay is embraced by hills on three sides, and the left side faces the sea. There are 13 beaches, stretching 400 to 2,000 meters.

The sand of Tannan Bay contains at least 96 percent silicon dioxide, which makes it pure and white.
