Major Hong Kong shipping company Xin Yuan Enterprises Group is considering establishing a large logistics company in Pingtan, Fujian province, the company's president revealed on March 29.

Xu Wenjun made the remark during a meeting with the Party chief of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Zhang Zhaomin, part of the shipping magnate's fact-finding visit to the island city in Southeast China.

Established in Hong Kong in 2009, Xin Yuan Enterprises Group specializes in the bulk transportation of liquid asphalt, and in terms of the total quantity of asphalt vessels, it has become the biggest specialized asphalt shipping company in Asia.

The company is planning to establish an asphalt transportation logistics company to meet the increasing demand for asphalt in China, and Pingtan is one of the cities it is considering as a base, according to Xu.

Xu held in-depth discussions with Zhang on possible opportunities for cooperation between Xin Yuan and Pingtan during his visit, with Zhang taking the opportunity to introduce the city's development strategy to the visiting delegation.

Pingtan has made big breakthroughs in the development of its infrastructure, industry and relationship with Taiwan in recent years, said Zhang.

He also added that the city has been growing into a hotspot for investment, and expressed his hope that more companies like Xin Yuan Group would seek cooperation with Pingtan.

After hearing about the preferential policies in taxation and finance offered by Pingtan, as well as its transportation network, Xu spoke highly of Pingtan's unique geographical and policy advantages.

The two sides should hold in-depth conversations and reach a cooperative agreement as soon as possible, Xu suggested.
