Local tech firm FanC Co demonstrated their newest development, a waterproofing solution for mobile phones, on Sept 30 at a maker space presentation.

Workers from the company submerged a mixture of branded phones underwater for 15 minutes after applying the solution to them. The phones were able to receive calls while underwater and functioned normally after the experiment.

The phones were waterproofed by undergoing a vacuum nano coating process and heat treatment. The entire process normally takes between 20 and 30 minutes.

The demonstration was part of a presentation at the Xiaomairen maker space in Pingtan that allowed companies based there to show off their latest developments, products and innovations.

Reliability tests show that cell phones can stay waterproof at a depth of 30 centimeters underwater for three to four hours. The coating material was developed by the company's research team, made up of students from the mainland and Taiwan, and is the result of a year's experiments.

According to Li Zhengxian, an officer of the company, their economical nano-coating solution is marketable with its high performance-price ratio in comparison to similar solutions available in Germany and the US.

This forward-thinking technology already lured the company an important partnership with China Telecom's Pingtan branch.

Chen Pinzhou, a top officer of the telecommunication company's local office, said that according to the deal with FanC Co, they plan to offer the coating service at their local stores.

Xiaomairen, the incubator that fostered FanC Co, aims to facilitate innovative entrepreneurships in the fields of nanotechnology, international trade, education and tourism.

In the five month period since settling in the Taiwan Innovation Park in Pingtan, the incubator has helped mature a line of innovative technologies, the most brilliant of which were showcased at the presentation.

Besides FanC Co's coating solution, some smart home devices were also widely praised at the event.
