The 2016 National Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Week Pingtan is set to take place at the Taiwan Innovation Park in Pingtan, Fujian province from Oct 12 to 25.

The two-week event, themed "innovative China, Pingtan in action", aims to promote cross-Straits exchange and cooperation and to boost the city's profile as an international tourism destination.

Young entrepreneurs from the mainland and Taiwan will showcase their creative new products and business models at the event, which will feature project demonstrations, seminars, an inventions market and a start-up contest.

One of the highlights of the event is sure to be the start-up contest on Oct 15-17, which will pit the best businesses against each other for a 50,000 yuan prize.

As of Oct 10, 56 projects had enrolled in the contest from areas as diverse as tourism, new media, culture and creativity, with a third of the entries coming from Taiwan.

The organizers hope that the event will allow some of the brightest young minds to share their experiences to promote an entrepreneurial culture, and will help to raise interest in innovation among the general public.
