Liu Junchen, the deputy director of the State Administration for Industry & Commerce has called for cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation to be strengthened in connection with trademarks ahead of the 2016 Cross-Straits Trademark Forum.

Liu made the remarks alongside vice governor of Fujian province Liang Jianyong at a meeting with a delegation from the Chinese Commercial &Industrial Coordination Society on Sept 22.

Liu introduced the development of the mainland's trademark registration and protection work during the meeting, including the situation of Taiwan companies' trademark registration and protection in mainland.

Liu pointed out that cross-Straits cooperation in connection with trademark issues has brought about productive results in recent years. He said the trademark forum will offer a framework for exchanges and contribute to the development of trademark rights protection and the promotion of national brands.

Chan Chun-po, former vice chairman of Kuomintang and honorary chairman of The Chinese Commercial & Industrial Coordination Society, said that the mainland has advanced remarkably since China adopted the reform and opening-up policy, adding that cross-Straits cooperation has also benefited.

Cooperating with trademark issues has improved cross-Straits economic and trade ties, allowing young people from the mainland and Taiwan to deepen exchanges and promote national brands, according to Chan. He said he was positive about the approach to affording solutions to tackle challenges in social and economic development through joint efforts.

Liang said that Fujian and Taiwan share both geographical and cultural proximity, and that Pingtan, as the main facilitator of Fujian-Taiwan cooperation, will remain at the frontier for piloting innovative practices.
