The 2016 Kiteboarding World Championships' Pingtan round and the second National Kitesurfing Championship both kicked off at Haiyu Square on Pingtan Island's Longfengtuo Beach on Sept 21, reported local news website Ptnet.cn.

The world championship contains two events—wave riding and jumping—both of which require the contestants to display excellent skills.

The strong northeast wind across the waters near the Longfengtou Beach will be of great support to the participants in the jumping, or airstyle, category as they try pull off their repertoire of fancy tricks.

The international event is being hosted by Pingtan Kitesurfing Association, after the organization earned the trust of the world championships' organizer, the International Kiteboarding Association.

The national contest, which is being held in Pingtan for a second consecutive year and is running alongside the world championships, is a speed race. It is the first time the national event has been hosted in tandem with the world championships and international referees will judge the contest.

The starting times of the contests are being decided by a committee depending on the weather conditions.
