Visitors to Haitan ancient town now have access to a free audio tour of the ancient town thanks to the Fujian smart tourism project, which aims to enhance services for tourists at popular scenic spots across the province.

Simply by scanning a QR code, tourists are guided around Haitan and are able to learn more about its history and culture.

The codes so far have been or will be put into place across 100 scenic spots across the province, including four in Pingtan; Haitan ancient town, Shipaiyang scenic spot, Immortal Well scenic spot and Aoqian Taiwan-style town.

Fujian province has introduced a raft of improvements in its tourism sector in a bid to attract more visitors and improve their experience when they visit, such as creating interactive exhibits, electronic maps and free audio guides.

A mobile phone app is planned in the future so that visitors will be able to have instant access to a wealth of helpful information including transportation, traffic details and weather services.

Currently, Haitan ancient town is the only scenic spot in Pingtan to have launched the smart tourism program, with the other three scenic spots expected to launch theirs by the end of July.
