A record number of riders took part in the 2016 Ocean Cup China International Cycling Open Race, which took place in Pingtan, Fujian province, on June 26.

Some 2,105 cyclists from 21 countries and regions took part in categories such as men's mountain cycling professionals and a duathlon. The course, which started at Haiya Plaza and stretched for 16 kilometers, attracted many of the world's top cyclists.

The Ocean Cup China (Pingtan) International Cycling Open Race is the largest domestic one-day cycling race in the country, and has taken place in Pingtan for the past two years. It is the first of its kind to combine ocean culture with a cycling race, and was held in conjunction with World Ocean Day which fell on June 8.

The three-day event aims to promote a green and low-carbon lifestyle as well as help turn Pingtan into an international tourism destination.
