Fujian Provincial Tourism Administration recently rolled out a series measures to support Pingtan's goal of becoming an international tourist destination, local media reported on June 24.

A special fund of 10 million yuan ($1.5 million) will be launched and used to support the construction of new tourism projects in Pingtan, as well as go towards promotional campaigns.

Additionally, an incentive of 100 yuan per tourist attracted will be given to local travel agencies who organize mainland visitors to Taiwan. The bonus is hoped to make full use of Pingtan's preferential policies granted by central government and its geographic advantage as a port to Taiwan to promote the tourism in the area.

Priorities will be given to Pingtan's tourism investment projects to help them enroll in national projects and gain support from the international tourism development fund.

Some other funds will also be directed to Pingtan in a bid to help the area create distinctive tourism projects, develop rural tourism and upgrade local tourism services and infrastructure.

More measures involving tourism promotion, tourism products and tourism professionals were also mentioned.
