Pingtan aspires to become heaven for cycle lovers

The Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ), Fujian province hosted a meeting to discuss ways to develop its cycling sector on April 24, ptnet.cn reported.

The idea to develop cycling comes from the increasing popularity of the sport in the zone. It has now beautiful coastal landscape as well as the Island Ring Road that is suitable for cycling, which attract a large number of cycling lovers. It also plays host to lots of cycling events, such as the Cross-Straits Worker's Cycling Race.

Local government is working on a draft development plan for its cycling industry, announced Xu Weize, director of PCPZ's administrative committee, at the meeting.

As per the plan, Pingtan will build a cycling park, a national professional cyclists training base, and practice areas for amateur cyclists. The plan also involves route planning for cycling events.

Xu continued to say that the plan is still in the initial stage and he called on the participants to give more suggestions on it.

Yao Jiang-Lin, head of the Cross-Straits Labor Relation Development Association, agreed with the zone's idea to develop cycling. Yao asked local government to pay attention to supporting facilities for the national training base and to create a sound cycling industrial chain.

Chen Zhen, Party secretary of Fujian Federation of Labor, mentioned that the cycling park shall cater to cycling enthusiasts nationwide, which is expected to help attract more related companies to move in the zone.

Lin Jia-Huang, deputy team leader of the Cross-Straits Bicycle Association, considered that Pingtan shall strengthen the promotion of its advantages in cycling, so as to attract more Taiwan cyclists.
