The state tax revenue in Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian province amounted to over 212 million yuan ($32.8 million) in the first quarter of 2016, a surge of 103.4 percent compared to the same period of last year, according to local state tax bureau on April 12.

Industries that made large contributions to the growth are software and IT services, communications and transportation, leasing and commercial services as well as finance.

Observers say that the zone's preferential policies on corporate income tax and subsidies ignited fast growth of the software and IT services. This sector contributed tax revenue of nearly 43.6 million yuan, rocketing 18861 percent year-on-year.

The growth of communications and transportation came from improved maritime policy and the return of shipping entrepreneurs with Pingtan origin. Its tax revenue increased 1075.5 percent year-on-year to about 52.8 million yuan.

The leasing and commercial services as well as finance sectors also grew slightly. The former sector paid tax of 7.8 million yuan, up 210.36 percent year-on-year, while the latter paid 14.2 million yuan, an increase of 57.78 percent year-on-year.
