A delegation from Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian province, led by director of its administrative committee, Xu Weize, visited Taiwan recently to enhance exchanges in economy and trade between the two areas, ptnet.cn reported on April 6.

The Pingtan officials went to cities of Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung. They toured the Taoyuan Aerotropolis, Taipei Port and Kaohsiung Port.

They also attended various meetings with different companies and institutions. For instance, they exchanged ideas about the development of cross-Straits shipping and logistics with representatives of Taiwan Civil Aeronautics Administration, Cross-Straits Exchange Association, Wagon Group, TongLit Logistic and other shipping companies.

They also strengthened cooperation with some old partners, including Federation of Taiwan Industries, Sheng Chang Pharmaceutical Co, Shenghong Technology Co, Delta Electronics, Nankang Software Park, Taiwan Cooperative Bank and Fubon Property Insurance.

In addition, they had a matchmaking event with the Third Wednesday Club, Taiwan General Chamber of Commerce, Shining Group and Hotel Royal to contribute to Pingtan's goals of becoming an international tourist island and a "Common Homeland" for people on both sides of Taiwan Straits.

Xu said that their visit aims to introduce Pingtan to more Taiwan people and promote mutual cooperation in economic trade. It will also help develop Pingtan port into a free trade port.
