The Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian province unveiled a series of preferential policies on March 31, to encourage young Taiwan people to work or start businesses at its Taiwan Town, ptnet.cn reported.

There are two highlights of the new policies. One is that young Taiwan people who start their own businesses at the town can apply for a four-year rent-free 100 square meter office area.

The provision applies to entrepreneurs aged between 18 and 45 who sign the rental agreement before June 30, 2017, and who live and work in the town for at least six months every year.

The entrepreneurs should also hire at least four regular employees under the age of 45, including two from Taiwan. The regular employees need to work in the town for no less than three months per year.

Another highlight is that the entrepreneurs who register their businesses in the town can apply for a talent subsidy when they recruit Taiwan employees. The total allowance is 2,850 yuan ($441) for each employee every month, including a 2,500 yuan wage subsidy and 350 yuan for accommodation. The policy expires on Dec 31, 2017.

The employees must be aged between 18 and 40 and have worked three or more months in the town, and must work a minimum of one and a half months per quarter.

The entrepreneurs are required to be Taiwan people aged between 18 and 45, who have worked three months or more at the town and have to work there no less than one and a half months each quarter.

The businesses shall be open for more than three months with no breach of contract. They shall pay the Taiwan employees 3,000 yuan or more before tax every month and offer them places to live. Employers who do not provide accommodation shall give the 350 yuan accommodation subsidy to the employees.

The Taiwan Town, also known as the Pingtan-Taiwan Duty-free Commodity Market, mainly displays and sells Taiwan specialties of food, cooking oil, meat, clothing, handicrafts and medicine. The town also brings in Taiwan's flagship stores, creative cultural products, international designer brands and tourism programs. It was rated as a 3A national scenic spot last December.
