Pingtan, Fujian province will become a second homeland for Taiwan people who study, work or live in the county, said Yu Weiguo, deputy secretary of the Provincial Committee of CPC and acting governor of the province on Jan 11.

Those remarks were made during a government work report at the Fourth Session of the 12th Fujian People's Congress held in the city of Fuzhou.

In 2016, it remains to be one of the government's top priorities to enhance cooperation between both sides across the Taiwan Straits.

As per the report, Pingtan has to take full advantage of its status as both a comprehensive pilot zone and an experimental area of cross-Straits cooperation to develop its industries and improve its infrastructure.

To ensure the Taiwan residents to have sense of belonging, the county will create better living environment. For instance, it will bring in high-end services and establish top residential areas.

And to attract more Taiwan entrepreneurs to start or expand businesses in the county and strengthen cross-Straits cooperation, it will also do more to support its emerging industries, said an official.
