Master architect visits Pingtan for cooperation

With a view to discussing a cooperation project, Cheng Taining, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a master architect led a delegation to Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian province on Dec 30.

The master architect said that he brought a tourism-related architecture project, which will help promote local tourism industry. He expected local authorities to work together with him to develop the project.

Cheng is a representative figure of China's third generation of master architects. His works feature the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, Nanjing Museum, Zhejiang Art Museum and Ghana's National Grand Theater among others.

Zhang Zhaomin, leader of Pingtan Party working committee pointed out that the project is in line with the zone's goal of becoming an international tourist destination. The leader suggested that the design of the project shall learn from the best building design at home and abroad.

He also added that due to Pingtan's status as an experimental zone for cross-Straits cooperation, the design shall incorporate Taiwan's features to enhance the sense of cultural identity of people across the Straits.
