With the idea of promoting industrialization of its aquatic products, Pingtan, Fujian province started construction of an aquatic food production and processing base on Dec 28, according to petnet.cn.

With total investment of 100 million yuan ($15.4 million), the base is a Sino-foreign joint venture. It covers a combined floor area of more than 40,000 square meters, with a refrigerated warehousing capacity of 16,000 tons.

The base is expected to complete construction within ten months and go operational in 2017, according to local authorities.

The authorities added that when it is completed, the base will help boost local industries such as aquaculture, logistics, package and catering. It will also be win-win for local government, enterprises and fishermen.

Daniel, its foreign investor from Nigeria, said that he is pleased to be a shareholder of the base and expected to offer best food processing and cold storage services to Pingtan.

Daniel also added that it was Pingtan's preferential policies that attracted him to invest here and he is confident that the county has a bright future.
