The Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) is aiming to become a provincial-level garden city this year, according to a government meeting on June 17, ptnet.cn reported.

The meeting also passed a plan that assigned tasks and goals for greening efforts.

Authorities said that they plan to carry out a big greening campaign by building more parks, green lands, and greenbelts in communities, on roads and along streets in the urban area.

Pingtan will also call on the public to participate, said Wang Jinzhu, deputy director of the PCPZ’s administrative committee.

Pingtan has made substantial greening efforts in recent years. The forest coverage rate has increased from 29 percent to 38 percent, the greening rate from 33 percent to 40 percent. A greenbelt stretching for more than 100 km has formed on the city’s main road, figures show.
