Okamoto made the remark following a visit to Pingtan, saying he was impressed by local efforts to open up to Taiwan and the whole world, and he is happy to introduce Pingtan to more Japanese enterprises.

Pingtan is an experimental zone open to Taiwan as well as an integral part of the Fujian Free Trade Zone, with goals of becoming an international tourist destination and a “common homeland” for people across the Taiwan Straits, said Li Dejin, director of Pingtan’s administration, adding that Pingtan looks forward to cooperating with Japan.
