A new expressway is under construction in the county of Changle, Fujian province. It will shorten the drive time from Pingtan County to Fuzhou City to one hour after its completion in 2018, local media reported.

The Changle-Pingtan Highway, stretching over 21 kilometers starts from Guhuai Township, which is connected to the Fuzhou Ring Expressway. It will thread the towns of Jiangtian, Xuetian and Songxia before ending at a railroad bridge over the Haitan Strait, which leads into Pingtan County.

Currently residents in Fuzhou bound for Pingtan have to take the Fuzhou-Quanzhou Highway, the Yuxi-Pingtan Highway and the Haixia Bridge, which costs them about 1.5 hours.

The two-way, six-lane Changle-Pingtan Highway with a designed speed of 100 km/h is expected to cut the time by 30 minutes.
