Authorities in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone signed 14 investment deals with some enterprises on Jan 9, Southeast Express reported.

The signings came after Pingtan was included in a free trade zone plan in Fujian province, which triggered a new wave of business interest and investment, said the newspaper.

It is notable that the Taiwan Cosmetics GMP Development Association has agreed to set up a cosmetics industrial park in Pingtan, which will be the first of its kind on the Chinese mainland.

“Cosmetics is a cause of health and beauty. With the production base in Pingtan, we hope to take advantage of Pingtan’s preferential policies and geographic conditions to take the cross-Straits cosmetics business to the next level and even enter the global market,” said Zhong Xingchun, chairman of the Association.

The Fujian Pingtan Pelagic Fishing Industry Group alone decided to invest in five projects in Pingtan, including deep-sea fishery processing, a tourist center and an exhibition center for duty-free commodities.

The Xinxin (Fujian) Industry Group will build a food industrial park, a sports park, as well as a sports industrial park in Pingtan based on agreements.

“Now, all kinds of favorable policies approved by the central authorities for Pingtan have been fully implemented, with an increasing number of entrepreneurs and merchants looking to explore business opportunities here,” said Xu Xu, deputy director of the local business promotion bureau.

“In the next stage, we will make more business attraction efforts using platforms such as the Taiwan Business Incubator and the Business Operation Center,” he added.
