Fujian's quarantine authority recently launched a pilot project, which will accept quarantine results from Taiwan’s professional agencies, in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone.

Under the scheme, cargo imported from Taiwan which has endorsements from the Taiwanese accreditation bodies will be given the green light by the quarantine authority in Pingtan.

Pingtan is the first and sole experimental area on the Chinese mainland open to Taiwan. It has carried out a number of reforms in the past several years benefiting cross-Straits communication and cooperation.

In an inspection of Pingtan in Nov last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping pointed out that authorities ought to continue to make innovations in customs clearance.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision hence responded to Xi’s instruction by authorizing its Fujian subordinate to carry out the quarantine acceptance pilot project on Taiwanese products.

The project will strengthen cross-Straits quarantine cooperation, elevate customs clearance efficiency and facilitate cross-Straits trades, according to insiders.
