A delegation of the administrative committee of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ), headed by the committee’s director Li Dejin, visited a number of ministries and central departments in Beijing from Dec 23 to 26 to report on Pingtan’s development and seek further endorsement.

Officials with the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Finance, the General Administration of Customs (GAC), the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange all expressed their support for Pingtan, which was recently approved to set up a free trade zone (FTZ).

The NDRC will promote and improve a joint inter-ministerial meeting for Pingtan. It will increase support in policy, project, technology and finance, according to He Lifeng, NDRC’s deputy director.

Pingtan should take advantage of all preferential policies approved by the central authorities and actively apply for more in order to boost the construction of FTZ and an international tourism island, he added.

Yu Guangzhou, minister of the GAC, noted that it will further study customs clearance modes in Pingtan and will support reforms and new methods to facilitate the trade and exchange of personnel, which will pave the way for the FTZ’s construction.

The Ministry of Finance will explore more policies regarding the construction of an international tourism island in Pingtan, and will bolster industrial development there, said Liu Kun, deputy director of the ministry.

Weng Mengyong, deputy director of the Ministry of Transport, pledged to boost the infrastructure construction in Pingtan.
