Officials of more than 20 travel agencies gathered in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ), Fujian province, on Dec 3 and had a brainstorming session on how to boost Pingtan’s tourism.

They came up with suggestions on improving tourism infrastructure and road construction, expanding a duty-free Taiwanese Commodity Market and enhancing promotional efforts.

Pingtan boasts four strong competitiveness – Xin (New), Dao (Island), Tai (Taiwan) and Gou (Purchase), said Chen Yihui, deputy director of the Fujian Provincial Tourism Bureau, at a recommendation session for bosses of those travel agencies.

Pingtan pays attention to the long-term development of the tourism industry and will preserve the existing tourism resources, said Zhou Qingsong, deputy director of PCPZ’s administrative committee.

In the next stage, Pingtan will initiate a series of tourism projects such as state-owned hotels and a rural village landscape-transforming program, he added.
