The Sixth Cross-Straits Media Summit convened in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) in Fujian province on Dec 10.

More than 40 executives from media agencies and 150 experts in journalism research across the Taiwan Straits gathered at the Qilin Hotel and exchanged views on media development.

The guests made speeches on various topics, and discussed cross-Straits cooperation in news coverage, market expansion and media integration.

The convergence of traditional and new media plays a vital role in passing on culture and traditions. And Fujian will provide a service as a steady platform for cross-Straits media cooperation, said Li Shulei, head of the publicity department of Fujian province.

The Internet is taking on the mantle of today’s media development. In this revolutionary reform, the media agencies should take advantage of advanced technology to deliver news and messages to the public in the fastest way without losing the depth of stories, according to Ma Li, deputy editor-in-chief of People’ Daily.

Pingtan is a national experimental zone for cross-Straits cooperation. And it will strive to become a demonstration zone for cross-Straits media communication and cultural integration, said Li Dejin, director of PCPZ’s administrative committee.
