Delta Electronics Inc, an electronics company from Taiwan, inaugurated its South China headquarters in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) in Fujian province on Nov 28.

Founded in 1971, Delta Electronics has taken a predominant market share in switching power supplies and direct current fans across the world. It is also engaged in solutions for power management, industrial automation, telecommunication and renewable energy products.

Since it entered the Chinese mainland market in 1992, the company has opened 50 branches and more than 70 service centers. In 2013, it saw its business revenue rise to 32.6 billion yuan ($5.3 billion).

Delta Electronics set up a branch of the Delta Greentech Co in Pingtan in 2013 to test the waters, and finally decided to land its South China operational headquarters in Pingtan in July, according to Delta Electronics CEO Yancey Hai.

"Establishing a subsidiary in Pingtan is an integral part of Delta Electronics' development layout (on the Chinese mainland). Besides that, Pingtan has prominent geographical advantages, a fast-growing economy and a number of preferential policies, and its development concept of low-carbon, environmental protection and intelligence also matches that of our company. We will be based in Pingtan and strive to build it into a nationwide and even worldwide famous demonstration zone for its 'green intelligence'," he said.

The headquarters is situated in a local pioneer park for Taiwan businesses. It will provide solutions for the local government and enterprises during the construction of a smart city, such as building automation and energy management.

Bruce Cheng, founder and honorary chairman of Delta Electronics, was born in Jian'ou county in Fujian. He's been keen to make investments in his hometown and is enthusiastic about Pingtan's future.

"I've been to Pingtan three times before. And every time I came I was pleasantly surprised. And this time is no exception. I hope Delta can make contributions to Pingtan and even Fujian's construction of smart cities," he said.

Delta Electronics has a mature development mode and is green-minded, which will set a good example for those enterprises which are willing to settle in Pingtan, said Li Deijin, director of PCPZ's administrative committee.

The first phase of the Taiwan Pioneer Park is situated in the Jinjing Bay District, taking up an area of 200 mu (13 hectares), with an investment of 2 billion yuan.

The park provides business operation areas for enterprise headquarters, research institutions and companies engaged in e-commerce, cultural creation, soft developing and other high-technologies. It also serves as an innovation and career startup platform for young Taiwanese who are willing to come to Pingtan.

The construction began in 2012 and is due for completion in March.
