The Pingtan Entry-Exit Quarantine and Inspection Bureau was officially established on Sept 19.

The bureau’s predecessor was the Pingtan Branch of the Fujian Entry-Exit Quarantine and Inspection Bureau which was opened on March 31, 2012.

On April 8 this year, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) approved the setting up of a Pingtan bureau responsible for quarantine and inspection work.

The upgrade has adapted to the further opening up of Pingtan as a port and the Chinese mainland’s largest area under customs administration, and will grant more flexibility and power in making preferential policies for enterprises in Pingtan, explained Pingtan Times on Sept 22.

As of Sept 20, there were 211 enterprises in Pingtan engaged in export and import businesses which had registered at the Bureau. The most popular imported items are packaged food, washing products, alcohol, frozen aquatic products, LCD panels, fruit and large equipment.
