Government authorities in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) pledged to invigorate the tourism industry at an Aug 29 work conference.

Officials from PCPZ’s administrative committee heard a report by the local economic development bureau on establishing a tourism company, a construction plan for several tourism destinations as well as how to attract more investment in tourism.

Tourism is the leading industry in Pingtan which aims at becoming an international tourism island, as Li Dejin, the committee’s director noted at the meeting.

Li urged the making of an overall plan on tourism development as quickly as possible, an improvement in infrastructure conditions, and the promotion of a series of special tourism programs to appeal to more foreign tourists.

To accomplish these goals, Pingtan should set up a professional tourism company and a committee responsible for a sustainable and healthy growth in tourism, he added.

You Mengjun, deputy director of PCPZ’s administrative committee, pointed out that Pingtan should have a scientific plan for its tourism industry and pay attention to the preservation of tourism resources.
