Three of Pingtan's uninhabited sea islands have been included in an island tourism development plan by authorities in Fujian province.

Dasong Island, Dayu Island and Jiangshan Island will, along with 17 other islets from the province, be auctioned on a 50-year lease for use in tourism, according to the Fujian Tourism Administration and the Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries.

The announcement was made at the 10th Straits Travel Fair in Xiamen city on Sept 7.

The islet auction plan was approved by the State Oceanic Administration (SOA) in June.

Bidders will be obligated to make an investment of no less than 500 million yuan. Registration of ownership of the island must be completed within one year, and tourism projects with support facilities must be built within three years, said an official with the island research center under SOA.

Tourism projects vary depending on the island. For example, Dasong Island can develop golfing with excellent ecological conditions; Dayu Island boasts a large beach, which would be good for vacation villages; and Jiangshan Island has much potential as a natural bathing place as well as a water sports base with its good water quality.
