A delegation from the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) in Fujian province paid a five-day visit to Taiwan from July 7 to 11 for inspection and communications.

Headed by Li Dejin, director of PCPZ’s administrative committee, the delegation traveled to places such as Taipei city and Yilan county, dropping by a number of companies, associations, grass-roots communities and meeting with their representatives.

The Pingtan delegates visited many members of the central standing committee of the Kuomintang (KMT), Taiwan’s ruling party, including Lee Chuan-chiao, Hsieh Kun-hung, Yao Chiang-lin, Shen Qingguang, Chen Zongxing, Wu Zhigang, Li Weide, and exchanged views with them on cross-Straits peaceful development and increasing communications.

The delegates also explained to KMT officials Pingtan’s development blueprint and its infrastructure construction, and how it has boosted cross-Straits relationships.

Promoting Pingtan’s business and investment opportunities while visiting local enterprises and associations was a vital part of the trip, as it stopped at King Car Whisky Distillery, Tung Fang Golf & Country Club, HTC Corp, Pacific Construction Co Ltd, the Taiwan Youth Career Development Association Headquarters and the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association.

The visitors elaborated on many favorable policies for Taiwan’s enterprises and convenient traffic, which impressed the companies and associations deeply, who pledged to carry out pre-investment inspections of Pingtan soon.

Some of Taiwan’s giant corporations have inked collaboration pacts with Pingtan already.

Delta Electronics Inc recently announced that they will put its headquarters for South China business operations as well as an R&D center in Pingtan, and cooperate with Pingtan in green architecture and smart city construction.

Forte Hotels & Resorts plans to invest one billion yuan ($160 million) in developing a leisure tourism complex at Pingtan’s Tannan Bay area. The complex will consist of a zone featuring Taiwan’s aboriginal culture, custom club houses, hotels, a cosmetics and health zone, and a plaza for wedding celebrations.

Sinotech Engineering Consultants Ltd will provide intellectual support in making feasibility reports on engineering projects such as a sewage treatment plant in eastern Pingtan and sluice gates in the Jinjing Bay area.

What’s more, the Pingtan subsidiary of TPK Holdings, which is the world’s largest touch panel maker, will become operational in August. Televic Group will explore using Pingtan as a transfer point for cross-Straits express mail and parcels based on its advantages in marine express delivery, cross-border e-commerce and logistics.

The delegation also visited Zhongshun Community in Wenshan district in Taipei to learn about how it succeeds in providing cultural elements in the community.
