The administrative committee of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) in Fujian province and Kunshan municipal government in Jiangsu province signed a strategic cooperation frame agreement on June 3, which states that the two sides will collaborate in policy-sharing, exchange resources and personnel as well as industrial development.

To further facilitate the transportation of cargoes imported from Taiwan, Pingtan will serve as a major transit point between Kunshan and Taiwan. The two partners will jointly build an industrial development system, pushing for innovations and cooperation in cross-Straits financial sectors, according to the agreement.

Pingtan and Kunshan also pledged to increase communications in economy and trade, and how to provide better service for Taiwan people on the mainland.

Kunshan made a name for itself in cross-Straits communication, and Pingtan boasts a number of favorable policies from central and provincial authorities. The pact will help the two share their resources and complement each other, said Li Dejin, director of PCPZ’ administrative committee.

Pingtan is the only comprehensive pilot zone open to Taiwan on the Chinese mainland and has a lot in common with Taiwan in culture, which makes it an attractive place. Pingtan and Kunshan will work together to take cross-Straits communication to a new level, said Guan Aiguo, Party secretary of Kunshan.

The partnership deal was signed just 38 days after Guan and other Kunshan officials made an inspection trip to Pingtan on April 26.
